


Matthew J. Liedle is a partner with the firm and an AV-rated attorney by LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell. Matt's practice includes the following practice areas: construction and surety, professional malpractice, business disputes, government tort and employment liability, personal injury (transportation, garage keepers, construction site accidents and premises liability claims) and environmental matters.
Matt has represented large commercial and residential developers, general contractors, subcontractors of all kinds, sureties, architects, engineers, product suppliers and manufacturers. Matt is familiar with every facet of construction litigation and claim resolution. For contractors, Matt has drafted and negotiated contracts and settlement agreements, prosecuted breach of contract claims, and collection and lien actions, pursued and litigated claims, both public and private, and defended contractors, design professionals and sureties in indemnity related actions. Matt has also defended construction design professionals in malpractice actions. Further, Matt has handled construction related appellate matters.
Matt is a member of the Surety Claims Association of Los Angeles and San Diego and Construction Financial Management Association (Board Member 2001 - 2003). Matt is an active participant in the Defense Research Institute and serves on its Alternative Fee Arrangement and Billing Task Force and the Scaffolding, Crane and Aerial Device sub-group of DRI’s products liability committee. Matt is an admitted member of Claims and Litigation Management Alliance which promotes the highest standards of litigation. Also, Matt was selected by his attorney colleagues as a 2012 San Diego Top Attorney.
Matt has represented business owners and companies in complex contract disputes and dissolution actions and governmental entities and numerous law enforcement professionals in tort claims, excessive force actions and employment related Fair Employment Housing Act ("FEHA") cases.
Matt has also represented numerous professionals in malpractice actions including insurance brokers, architects, engineers and real estate brokers and agents. Matt is familiar with standard of care related issues and related professional activity.
Matt's arbitration and trial experience includes actions involving construction defects, contract, surety and labor disputes, professional malpractice, public works claim prosecution, construction accidents, inverse condemnation, government tort liability and FEHA claims, including cases involving complex building and soils issues, as well as other high exposure personal injury matters.
Matt is a magna cum laude graduate of St. Louis University (B.A., 1980) and Western State University College of Law (J.D., 1986). Matt is a member of the San Diego County Bar Association and State Bar of California and is admitted to practice before the Southern and Central United States District Courts of California and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Matt is a frequent speaker at seminars and was a featured speaker at West Coast Casualty's 2005, 2008, and 2011 Construction Defect Seminars attended by 1,200 professionals. Matt is a trained mediator and in 1982 assisted founding the University of San Diego School of Law Mediation Center.
